Take elements of Boston, LA and Hull and you’re left with our Artist Of The Month for May, The epic post-punkers, SKATERS!  We invited them down to our store in Covent Garden, to discuss their new EP, what it takes to #BeAnOriginal, holidays to Hull and everything in-between!

PENGUIN-SKATERS-5

The band parted ways with Warner Bros Records at the end of 2015, opting for a transfer to Gary Powell, from The Libertines’, independent label ‘25 Hour Convenience Store’ and released their mega ‘Rock and Roll Bye Bye’ EP to high critical acclaim. Skaters return from a full UK Tour with the 5 track beauty and also supported snot-pop kid of the moment Rat Boy at the beginning of May. It’s fair to say Skaters are causing big waves in all the right places.

This new EP is a stand alone release ahead of their second album, which we will be treated too in the Autumn. The band move away from the more distorted punk songs found on their debut album ‘Manhattan’ and down a more experimental route, displaying more solid and coherent vibes with a clear focussed statement.

Their huge single ‘The Loner‘ grabs and pulls you straight into the Skaters way. It’s time to get involved and really appreciate the raw sound of a band who aren’t just wrapped up in the ‘biz’ of a major label. You’re immediately hit with the raw energy of this trio, combining pure California punk with a splash of Tame Impala vibes.
