The modern game of golf we know and love today first originated in 15th-century Scotland. Today, there are four major championships in men’s professional golf: the British Open, The Masters, the U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship.
And did you know that Original Penguin’s history in the world of golf goes way back? It all started back in 1955, when Pete the Penguin was first embroidered onto shirts, but you can read more about this here. Since then, Pete has left his mark on some legends in the golfing world, including Cameron Smith, who is our official Original Penguin golf ambassador today.
27-year-old Cameron Smith (yes, 27) turned pro in 2013, and since then, he’s gathered a string of wins under his belt. In 2017, he partnered with Jonas Blixt, and they won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and again in 2021 with Marc Leishman. He has also won the 2020 Sony Open in Hawaii and the Australian PGA Championship, back-to-back in 2017 and 2018. More recently, he was runner up in the 2020 Masters, and we hope having a little penguin by his side has had something to do with Cam's golfing success.
But how does he get in the zone for the perfect round? Everyone needs a good walk-on song, and we think Cameron’s nailed his choice: Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes. Still an Aussie at heart, Cameron’s favourite course is located down in Melbourne, Australia, and he is often spotted out and about with his dachshund, Kendrick.
